With the reopening of states, nearly two-thirds of parents who use childcare say they’re not comfortable sending their children back to daycares. Although childcare facilities are following government SOP’s, some parents are worried about the pick and drop off as that can be a time of overcrowding and can be quite risky. If you’re one of them, don’t worry. Our experienced professionals at The Whole Child Development Centre, in Lenexa, created a quick guide on ensuring maximum safety and minimizing the chances of COVID-19 transmission.
Conduct regular temperature checks
Before leaving the house, it’s vital to take your child’s and your body temperature. If it’s high, you are encouraged to stay at home and keep your child at home to avoid putting other children at risk. Some childcare centers do conduct temperature screening at entrances and send the child home if found higher than average.
Keep your masks and gloves on
Children and parents are encouraged to take everyday preventive actions to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses. These actions include appropriately covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands often with soap and water.
Avoid delaying at the entrance
It’s essential to keep in mind that other parents are waiting in line behind you; make the drop-off or pick up as smooth and quick as possible. Training your child and practicing at home will help them act appropriately at the drop-off.
Maintain a 6-meter distance at all costs
Never forget the social distancing rule; before you drop off your child, give them a quick reminder of this too so that they may practice this in the classroom.
Try to designate a parent/guardian
Having one person drop of the child is essential as it can limit the number of people the staff comes in contact with. When two or more people go, it tends to get overcrowded, and following the social distancing rule might be hard to do, risking the safety of the people around you.
Ask your child for feedback
As you pick up your child, ask them how they feel and if safety measures were carried out in the classroom.
Check with the center for additional guidance
Before starting daycare, it is advised to reach out to the facility heads or teachers and inquire about the safety measure being implemented and what the procedure will be carried out during pick up and drop off so that you and your child are well-prepared.
Parents’ arrangements to drop off and collect children require careful consideration; hence, along with parent’s, childcare centers are also responsible for the well-being of the children. Being one of the leading childcare centers in Lenexa, we at The Whole Child Development Centre, go above and beyond to follow all the coronavirus guidelines, so that your child is learning and growing in a safe environment.
