Play activities have many benefits that can help your child develop essential life skills. A study in 2012 found that play facilitates a child’s learning brain while reducing stress.

In the wake of technology, fun and activity-based learning will help your child develop a range of important skills. Here are a list of must-try activities:

1. Dress-up and Play as Characters

Dressing up and playing as your child’s favorite characters helps in a lot of ways. Your child learns role-taking, empathy, and the importance of stepping into someone else’s shoes (literally) to understand how they would act and behave. Dressing up and play characters can also help hone your child’s essential creative skills.

2. Gardening

If you have the green thumb, chances are your child does too! Allow them to watch you as you garden and talk to them about the process. Show them the roots, the seeds, the bud of a new plant and watch them become mesmerized.

Gardening is a very creative way for a child to learn the importance of nature, care of living beings, and responsibility. Start small and give your child the chore of watering plants, removing dead leaves, and helping you paint the plant pots.

3. Arts and Crafts

Kids love arts and crafts! Buy age-appropirate art supplies from the market and watch your child whip up some innovative creations. Such activities help your child visualize, enhance their creative skills, and improves their motor functioning.

4. Play with Sand

If you have a sandbox outside your house, utilize it. Help your child dig, scoop, pour, sift, and create unique sand creations.

Sand activities can help build your child’s motor skills and muscle and give them a chance to learn about the earth elements. It can also help them develop leadership, teamwork, and cooperation skills if you decide to create things together.

5. Cooking and Baking

Serving food is the ultimate act of love. Enlist your child’s help in cooking or baking something fundamental and give them tasks that they can do unsupervised. This activity will help them understand many things: the importance of following measurements, the use of different ingredients to make up a whole, and cooking up delicious treats!
