Fitness is an important part of our lives, no matter what age we are. There’s this misconception that exercise and staying active is for people who want to lose weight. While exercise can help you lose weight, it also promotes better blood circulation, reduces the risk of obesity, promotes heart health, and also reduces the risk of cancer.

Little ones pick up on habits from their parents. When they see their parents maintain an active lifestyle, they are more likely to pick it up too. It will seem like second nature to them to exercise in the morning or evening (whatever your schedule is like). Here are some ways you can introduce fitness for the whole family:

Take the dog out for a walk together

Having pets can teach children how to treat animals well and take on responsibility at a young age. Get the kids to help out with the family dog. Turn dog walks into family dog walks. The kids get some steps in and you get to spend time as a family.

Walk more, use your car less

Get your children used to walking around. Constantly using your car to get around makes them reliant on vehicles. Not only is that bad for their health, but it also increases your carbon footprint. Instead, walk around town to get your chores done with your children. Use your vehicle for longer journeys. Make sure you’re always accompanying your children, to ensure their safety.

Play some games or sports with your children

Playing sports and other activities are excellent ways to stay active during the day. It also takes the monotony out of your kid’s daily routine. Play various sports with them throughout the week. This way they can figure out which game they enjoy and they’re getting an active workout too. Supervise children while they are playing and make sure they don’t overdo it.

Make games out of household chores

Doing chores around the house is a great way to get in some active minutes. Make chores interesting for children by making games out of them. Get your toddlers to compete with one another when cleaning up their toys before dinner. You’re hitting two birds with one stone, they learn to clean up after themselves and they’re being active. For older children, get them to do chores like folding the laundry, helping out in the garden, etc.
